Sadly, on April 21, 2010, Rescue crossed the Rainbow Bridge, leaving a large, lonely hole at Tamarac Tollers. She is sorely missed by all. I adored her and still “see’ her on her favorite sleeping spots, in the ponds, and “boinging” up and down in front of the counter while I fixed the dogs’ dinners.

Here is her story:

This precious Toller was taken by the NSDTRC-USA rescue program from a shelter, and under the direction of Don White, the national club rescue program coordinator at the time, was removed from the shelter. Rescue was subsequently placed into the loving foster care of NSDTRC(USA) members Sara McLoudrey, then Barbara Keane. Jill Griffin and friend Doug McNair handled her transportation when she adopted me in October 2002. Doug gave up an entire day driving 7 hours to meet me. His Dog Belle who is about the same age as Rescue was the first Red Boned Coon Hound (and perhaps the only?) to get a CD. To view a video of Belle, Please Click Here. Rescue is known as the USA Toller club rescue program’s “poster child.” Rescue now experiences the pleasures of everyday life and knows the joys of swimming, retrieving, boats, and birds--all of which she “told” me she'd never known before.

Rescue has been nanny to Toller pup Windy, then to Windy’s half sister Breeze. She raised them lovingly and is a great coach and role model for them both. She is a devoted, faithful companion.

I ONLY WANTED YOU

They say memories are golden
well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you,

a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you
you never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,

In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway

and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken,

and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.
