Authored by John Gillespie Magee, a 19 year old pilot who died in the air. Windy had so many of the same attributes--high-flying, free spirit, and courage. To read more about the poem, please Click HereOh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
- Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
Windy was a real "character," full of personality—and herself! She was a wonderful therapy dog, service dog, and also an actress. She played the role of "Sandy" in a 2005 production of Annie--19 performances in 16 days. One media critic summarized Windy’s personality accurately when he stated: “As obedient and well-trained as Windy is, she clearly knows what it means to be center stage. Windy is absolutely incandescent.”
Agility Windy
Windy loved doing just about everything: obedience, rally, canine freestyle, field, therapy visits, agility, and dock diving. She was the top-ranked DockDogs dock-diving Toller in 2007, with a personal “best” jump of 19’8”! Windy compleated her JH and WC titles in July '08, her WCI in '09, and her HR title in five stright hunting tests! Windy was in training for her SH and WCX until a cut pad and other physical issues limited her. Windy also loved visiting nursing homes on therapy visits. In agility Windy has earned her MACH title. In the same three day weekend Windy earned another double Q with first places in both standard and JWW, AND Q'ed in Standard a third time and another first place! Talk about consistancy. She was the epitome and perfect example of Toller versatility, holding the NSDTRC(USA) Versatility Excellent Certificate.
